Laugavegur

The Laugavegur Trek is a 55 km/34 mi classic hiking route across the rugged highlands of southern Iceland, which features stunning landscapes of colorful rhyolite mountains, glacier valleys, and geothermal ponds.  The Laugavegur Trek ranks among the top twenty most beautiful treks in the world, according to National Geographic.

It leads from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork Valley, which are both accessible by bus or by 4X4 drive.  From Thorsmork Valley, trekkers can opt instead to hike back to the Ring Road via the Fimmvorduhals Trek, which ends at beautiful Skogafoss Falls.  The Laugavegur Trek is only open from late June to mid-September.
